About 20,000 to 30,000 workers worked on a single pyramid. It is believed that this work was done when the Nile was flooded and as a result huge limestone blocks were able to be moved down the river. The stones were then polished and pushed up ramps to the right position.

It is still not known how these pyramids were designed. According to architects, it seems that building them required more than simple man-power. It is thought that ropes were used to line the stones up. Also, pulley type devices might also have been involved in this work.
